Bosch is connecting EV batteries to the cloud

Batteries are the most expensive components when it comes to electric vehicles (EV) today. Like any other type of batteries, they undergo wear and tear as they age. This eventually brings down the overall performance and decreases the range of an EV. In an effort to manage the electric vehicle batteries in a better way, Bosch has decided to tie them up with the cloud.

Bosch believes that by connecting EV batteries to the cloud, an analysis can be made to understand the battery status in real-time to prevent or slow down their aging. Preventative measures can allow the batteries to reduce the wear and tear by as much as 20% as every single charging process can be monitored and optimized. Further, Bosch intends to also provide the EV drivers with tips on how to conserve battery power while driving via the dash display.

“Bosch is connecting electric-vehicle batteries with the cloud. Its data-based services mean we can substantially improve batteries’ performance and extend their service life,” says Dr. Markus Heyn, member of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH.

Partnering with Bosch in this endeavor is China’s DiDi Chuxing. The partnership is to see Bosch introduce Battery-cloud collaboration across DiDi’s electric-vehicle fleet.
