Plex, the personalized cloud-based media player service is putting an end to its services. The Plex Cloud service will be seeing its last at the end of November due to a multitude of technical issues. Although the platform has been down in maintenance mode for a few months now, it looks like it simply can’t be saved anymore.
Launched back in 2016, Plex media server was an easy access to extra storage for users. Back then, you needed to subscribe to Amazon Drive that cost you $59.99 a year. With this, you could get unlimited storage and also a Plex Pass, a ticket to use the Plex Cloud. A little later, Dropbox, Microsoft One Drive, and Google cloud storage were granted support on Plex.
However, the company simply couldn’t handle the integrations of these various platforms. It had to disable its alliance with Amazon Drive due to many technical reasons. “While we are super bummed about the impact this will have on our happy Cloud users, ending support for it will allow us to focus on improving core functionality, adding new features and content,” the company said in its email sent to Plex customers.
However, the media files will remain intact, even if the entire Plex Cloud platform won’t be accessible by the end of November. But if you’ve relied on this cloud service, it’s going to be a major blow to you, especially if you’ve backed up your personal files and photos up there.
