Samsung ventures deeper into home IoT with new SmartThings

Samsung’s SmartThings line of smart home equipment is expanding further today. In a new announcement, Samsung announced new gadgets SmartThings Cam, SmartThings Wifi Smart Plug, and SmartThings Smart Bulb. Samsung has priced the Cam at $89.99, Wifi Smart Plug at $17.99 and the Smart Bulb at $9.99. The lineup of the new devices pushes Samsung further into home IoT and security market.

Samsung says that the SmartThings hub isn’t a dire requirement for the Cam and Smart Plug. Only the Smart Bulb relies on the hub as it requires Zigbee 3.0 for connectivity. Plus, the devices works seamlessly with voice assistants like Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and of course Samsung’s own Bixby voice assistant.

With the Cam, you get features like IR for night vision, person detection, 145-degree field of view, full HD video with HDR, and two-way audio. There’s also 24-hour cloud storage backup at no extra cost up to four cameras. You can view the videos on the mobile app or also on Samsung’s FamilyHub refrigerators or a Samsung TV.

Next, the Smart Bulb is a device of 9-watt smart LED light bulb with 806 lumens and comes with a warm white color (2700K) that can be dimmed. Lastly, the Wifi Smart Plug is a small smart device that can fit two plugs on the same wall outlet.
