Amazon is now funding computer science and robotics programs in Seattle schools. With an idea to train the next generation of engineers in robotics, Amazon will be finding 30 public schools under its Future Engineer Robotics grants where children can have access to computer science and robotics learning. They will also have a private tour of an Amazon robotics fulfillment center.
Delighted with the new funding, Seattle Public Schools superintendent Denise Juneau said in a statement: “This partnership with Amazon will give our students of color the opportunity to see engineers who look like them -- which provides a huge benefit and creates a quicker course to students imagining a future in a STEM field. Creating educational journeys like these help ensure our students are prepared for college, career, and life.”
As part of the funding, FIRST robotics team will also be supporting the schools. FIRST is a mentor-based initiative and robotics program for schools with an idea to promote science and technology for children.
There are nearly 100 schools under Amazon’s Future Engineer program spread across 22 states. Providing this IT service to children at a young age will help children get a good grip on robotics; and a plus point for Amazon’s goodwill across these states.
