Smashwords and Findaway team-up to produce Cheaper Audiobooks

Publishing an audiobook can be an expensive endeavor where the production costs are so high, that self-published or first-time authors cannot afford it. This is why a self-publishing platform and e-book distributor Smashwords has teamed up with production platform and audiobook distributor Findaway Voices to give these independent authors a cheaper way to make audiobooks.

Using Findaway and Smashwords, authors and publishers can find professional narrators more quickly and hear voice actor recommendations from an online casting support team. According to the new announcement, there will also be estimates of production costs and hourly rates for these voice actors. And the price ranges from $150 to $400 an hour.

CEO of Smashwords, Mark Coker said in an announcement that the new partnership deal would give greater control over pricing and distribution to authors and publishers. This would make things more “economically feasible” to get into audiobook production even with short or cheaper books.

Today, there is a lot of demand from independent authors who are interested in making audiobooks. The new proposal from Smashwords and Findaway is aiming to answer this high demand. Currently, the audiobook marketplace is booming. So, this will help the companies and the authors grow.
