Lenovo has set a whole new platform for data centers with the launch of ThinkSystem and ThinkAgile brands. A new set of servers, storage, networking and software defined systems are also to be included here. Lenovo has designed these systems in a way to be flexible as an enterprise’s workloads change. The launch is going to give Lenovo a foothold in big data, high performance computing, artificial intelligence and high cloud workloads.
Any existing infrastructure can be plugged into the ThinkSystem, which will adapt to the workloads. On the other hand, ThinkAgile is a series of pre-built and pre-tested systems that are automated. There are also ThinkAgile SX rack systems which are for the Microsoft Azure Stack. Lenovo has also launched a series of switches for the networking front, which are ThinkSystem NE1032T, NE1072T and others.
Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang believes that there will be a fourth industrial revolution which will revolve around intelligent transformation and artificial intelligence. Lenovo plans to be the supplier for these revolution enterprises with smart infrastructure and expanded portfolio. What Lenovo is aiming is for is every device to be smart and carry out two-prong strategy called ‘device + cloud’ and ‘infrastructure + cloud’.
When you look at the whole picture, ThinkSystem brand will include servers, storage and networking. And ThinkAgile is focused on software-defined data centers integrated and converged systems. This means that Lenovo just launched 14 server platforms, 7 storage offerings and 5 network switches! However, here’s the catch! Lenovo will be competing with Dell Technologies, which also has similar end-to-end approach. How far Lenovo will succeed is something one must look out for.
