6fusion: A smarter way to Buy and Sell

6fusion: A smarter way to Buy and Sell

In today’s fast-paced world, supply chains play a very important role. When it comes to business organizations, having an efficient IT supply chain is quite critical. 6fusion is on a mission to make the IT supply chain very efficient. 6fusion connects buyers and sellers for IT requirements with its end-to-end digital supply chain platform. To make everything smooth and efficient, the company uses the power of algorithmic matching capabilities and rich analytics.

Established in 2010, 6fusion was founded with one idea in mind- IT supply chain should be made into a Utility. Based on simple observations, the founders of 6fusion believed that IT supply chain should be treated like Utility, something that’s absolutely transparent in price, ubiquitous, and pervasive. In a gist, 6fusion makes “smarter IT buyers and help IT sellers do more of what they do, faster.” Today, the company has spread out its connections worldwide with its home base in Raleigh, NC and is helping people to better transact, manage, and analyze in their IT utility.

How do we measure it? 6fusion answers

Well, that’s easier said than done. The idea and mission are all appealing, but there was just one problem to reach this goal. “There was no universal metric for a transaction. All these years, we were all trained to understand the ‘server’ as a logical billing unit,” recalls 6fusion. But 6fusion changed the way we perceive this. In this era of digital computing, the founders of the company realized that this old training wouldn’t work.

The founders understood that the supply chain management required a single unit of measure that could transcend politics, production, language, and proprietary invention. While it was a challenging obstacle to overcome, the co-founders John Cowan and Delano Seymour came up with a brilliant idea to form a powerful solution- the Workload Allocation Cube (kWAC). In fact, this challenge sparked an entire IT economics movement and led to the creation of 6fusion.

Establishing kWAC marked the first true ‘apples-to-apples’ comparison for IT infrastructure. 6fusion has successfully enabled the buying, operating, selling supply chain IT just like any other utility. The company successfully achieves this by taking an algorithmic approach that eases the measurement and analysis of buying and selling.

Reinventing Measurements

Let’s take a look at the solutions offered by 6fusion:

  • A Better Way to Buy and Sell IT

It was 6fusion that developed the first-ever digital marketplace for buying and selling. The marketplace empowers “businesses to understand the value of their assets, recoup budget by selling surplus inventory and source certified, refurbished equipment at a fair market price.”

  • IT Financial Baseline

Across your entire IT estate, you get a comprehensive IT financial baseline from 6fusion. It doesn’t matter if your operations take place in managed cloud services, private data centers or public clouds like AWS, 6fusion delivers solutions to all.

  • Intuitive Analytics For The Utility Era

6fusions excels when it comes to turning raw data into a powerful supply chain with its modern analytics technology and practices application. Meaningful benchmarks, KPIs, comparisons bridge the gap between operations and finance. In the end, the customer- both buyer and seller can save time and money.

Innovatively Enterprising

The founder duo- John Cowan and Delano Seymour had quite many challenges laid on their path. But as pioneering entrepreneurs, giving up was out of question. “To have an idea and a vision for a different future is one thing. To have the guts to do something about it is quite another,” says the CEO and co-founder, John Cowan. When he set out with his idea, he was carrying a lot of uncertainty and personal risk.

But he came across an encouraging quote- “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like very few people will, so you can live the rest of your life like very few people can” that reminded him the guts to start his entrepreneurial journey. And almost a decade later, 6fusion is considered as one of the best companies.

And the people working here share the same drive as their CEO and show up at their workplace every morning; even though there are outsiders saying what 6fusion is doing can’t be achieved. They aren’t quitters, but a strong team of dedicated people who strive hard to achieve their goal.

This is also why the clients love working with 6fusion. “Enterprises need help in understanding their IT Estates, and the WAC provides a neat and Tidy way of measuring consumption pre- and post-implementation,” says Owen Rogers, the research director at Digital Economics Unit. “6fusion's WAC is the closest thing the industry has to a common unit of measurement,” adds Lynda Stadmueller, Vice President of Frost & Sullivan.

Paving the way

John Cowan, CEO and Co-Founder

Since the company’s inception in the United States, Mr. Cowan has been a member of the Board of Directors. As the co-inventor of 6fusion’s WAC algorithm and co-patent holder, he is regarded as the company’s business model visionary. In addition to 6fusion’s day to day management, Mr. Cowan is responsible for the overall strategic vision and commercial direction of 6fusion.

Mr. Cowan is an 18-year veteran of business and product development within the IT and Telecommunications sectors. Prior to founding 6fusion, his tenure includes success in creating new business during the period of telecommunications deregulation as well as launching new products and services globally.

Throughout his career, John Cowan has demonstrated a keen ability to understand how technology is evolving and how it can be applied to solve foundational business problems in the market.

“To have an idea and a vision for a different future is one thing. To have the guts to do something about it is quite another.”
