Just Analytics: Your Specialized Partner in Delivering Unique Solutions

Just Analytics: Your Specialized Partner in Delivering Unique Solutions

For any business to run well there is a need for an orderly plan and a know-how on what should be done. This is why both well-established and new businesses are leaning on consulting firms for their advisory services. There are talented and learned people who run the consulting firms to help others understand small and big problems. And this is exactly what Just Analytics specializes in. The company is a specialized partner providing consulting and advisory services that allow the clients to meet current and future analytical goals and objectives. Based in Singapore it strives to help companies build applications that transform data into insight giving them a greater understanding of their information assets.

In conversation with the chief architect, Hemanta Banerjee

Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?

We started Just Analytics with an aim to do work that we could be proud of.  At the same time, the work had to be financially beneficial both for the customer and the company. Prior to Just Analytics, my partners and I were part of a large technology company. After witnessing the technical limitations, internal politics, and non-customer considerations, we decided to set up Just Analytics.

What is your company’s vision statement? And to what extent are you successful in achieving the same?

Our vision is to always be honest. This honesty extends inwards with employees or outwards with customers. This is why we have a very flat structure and open communication to all our employees and our customers as well. This is always a work in progress, but we are all guided by the same principle.

How successful was your first project roll on? Share the experience.

Our very first project was one of the most complicated. We decided to do a pilot for free as we wanted to showcase that we are actually great at what we do.  Although it wasn’t very profitable, in the long run, we believe it has been very successful because this customer has been with us ever since, and have also delivered over 35 other successful and profitable projects over the years.

What challenges did you face in your initial years? What can your peers learn from it?

Our key challenge in the early years was finding the right people. In the initial years, we had a very person-based hiring system. This led to great inconsistencies across the teams. We initially started as a niche analytics firm with an expectation to take on the most complex projects. This is where we learned that once the senior stakeholders start to trust you with complex challenges, they also want you to handle their simpler challenges, which is more in number.

What do you feel are the reasons for your consistent growth as an organization?

Our clear and honest focus on establishing value has led us here today. Although this has led to short-term profitability at times, our prime focus is on long-term profitability. We have always taken a long-term view of geographic, product, and industry growth. That mindset has served us well – and continues

How well do your employees know their role in contributing to the team’s and company’s success?

We have constant informal and regular formal communication with our employees. We talk about the initiatives we are working on and what’s working and what isn’t. We follow a flat structure and open communication across from the most junior to the CEO. We believe in “commanders’ intent” that allows many of our smaller independent teams to work towards the same goals as the larger teams.

How do you and your company contribute to the global IT platform and society at large?

We have been working with the Singapore government to re-train people from other fields into Data & AI to generate more jobs. This initiative has been successful and has allowed us to give back to Singapore. Apart from this, we have also built multiple frameworks. We give this back to the IT community in the form of open sourced code. We also encourage our consultants to regularly contribute to external forums and blogs with what we’re learning and doing.

Do you have any new products ready to be/getting ready to be rolled out into the market?

We are currently in the process of rolling out some new BI and AI products. On the BI side, we are rolling out solution templates which allow companies to connect to their ERP and get a cloud datawarehouse running in weeks instead of months. On the AI side, we’re rolling out some exciting new Vision capabilities for retailers, and Audio Analytics capabilities for anyone doing inbound or outbound calling.

Where do you see you and your company a couple of years from now?

We hope to continue to be as dynamic as we are now and hope to be operating in more geographies and have a larger team. And all while maintaining the quality and attitude of employees that we have now.
