VSCO, the company behind the popular mobile video editing app has acquired Rylo, the camera/video editing company. Neither of the companies chose to reveal the details of the acquisition.
Joel Flory, the Co-Founder and CEO of VSCO said: “We’re excited to announce the acquisition of Rylo, the makers of a compact camera with powerful video stabilization technology.”
With the growing demand for video editing, the acquisition will help VSCO accelerate the delivery of innovative video editing features. The acquisition will also play a vital element in the company’s growth and future.
Rylo was founded in 2015 by the co-founders Alex Karpenko and Chris Cunningham. The duo was responsible for co-creating Instagram’s timelapse and direct messaging features. They also co-created iPhoto for iOS.
Rylo is today best known for its promising 360° camera which delivers a video in 5.8K resolution. The product is available on BestBuy.com for $250. Post the acquisition, reports suggest that Rylo will focus on building its video editing tools for mobile. It will not be continuing to manufacture the devices though. The Rylo team will join VSCO at the latter’s Oakland headquarters later this week.
