Amazon is blamed for not deleting users’ stored data that is obtained from voice interactions using the firm’s Alexa and Echo devices.
Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware sent a letter to the Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos asking how long would it take for the company to delete audio files? The response from the company came on Friday: “We retain customers’ voice recordings and transcripts until the customer chooses to delete them.”
Another question asked: Did Amazon hold on to text transcripts of voice interactions with Alexa, even after a user has chosen to delete the audio?
Brian Huseman, Amazon’s vice president of public policy, responded by saying, “ongoing effort to ensure those transcripts do not remain in any of Alexa’s other storage systems.”
Amazon assured of not holding any audio files but the transaction information like for instance, transaction made on Uber, food delivery, etc may still be in their records.
“We do not store the audio of Alexa’s response. However, we may still retain other records of customers’ Alexa interactions, including records of actions Alexa took in response to the customer’s request,” Huseman wrote.
It is reported that Amazon’s stakes are increasing just because the company is handling sensitive patient health information.
