Wal-Mart expands Pickup Towers

wal mart expands pickup towers

 July 25, 2017

Wal-Mart has rolled out self-service kiosks for customer’s online orders called the Pickup towers. In fact, this isn’t the first kiosk to appear was last year in Arkansas. But now, Wal-Mart is expanding this service to benefit all. Currently, Wal-Mart has about 20 kiosks and intends to add about 80 more. This will spread across the country and will be fully functional in the coming months.

Massive structures

If you ever spot one of these Pickup Towers, it will in fact amaze you. The Pickup Towers are massive structures to even be called as kiosks! They are tall standing structures of 16 feet tall and 8 feet wide in dimensions. Wal-Mart has placed these towers right at the entrances to its store. This is to get everyone’s attention and lure them to use it often.

It is not just the size that makes it a giant. Another reason is that it holds tons of packages inside it. And it is definitely more versatile than the pickup lockers that Wal-Mart had introduced and tested. But the size of these lockers and compartments where packages were kept were unsatisfactory.

The Pickup Towers are indeed a much needed service for the customers who order online. You only need to scan your barcode on the purchase receipt and within 45 seconds you get your goods. The door to this massive structure opens and all your items appear on a conveyer belt.

Based on the customer feedback, Wal-Mart is aiming to roll out more of these Pickup Towers. “Our Pickup Towers are the latest example of how we’re using new technology to save our customers time in addition to money. We’re continuing to listen to our customers and will use their feedback to determine the future expansion of the Pickup Tower,” said Wal-Mart spokesperson, Justin Rushing.
