After Google canceled its Android license for Huawei phones, Qualcomm, Intel, and Broadcom also joined in and stopped its business activities with the Chinese tech giant. And now, Huawei has responded to the turn of events raging as part of the trade war between the US and China.
Huawei founder- Ren Zhengfei spoke to the Chinese media at the company’s headquarters. Firstly, he said the extension for a period of ninety days for normal business relations will not have any difference to the Huawei as long as the contingency plans continue to exist.
Ren also said: “In such a critical moment, I’m grateful to US companies, as they’ve contributed a lot to Huawei’s development and showed their conscientiousness on the matter. As far as I know, US companies have been making efforts to persuade the US government to let them cooperate with Huawei ... We always need US-developed chipsets, and we can’t exclude American products with a narrow mind.”
The 74-year-old Chinese tech visionary also opined that the current trade restrictions will have no effect on the 5G rollout the company is planning. Huawei doesn’t expect anyone to reach its level of technological expertise of 5G networking in the next 2-3 years. According to Reuters, he said that the US government is “underestimating Huawei’s capabilities.”
Additionally, Huawei issued a minimalistic statement to media companies here in the US. The statement read: “Huawei has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of Android around the world. As one of Android’s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry.”
Continuing further, the statement added: “Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally. We will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally.”
