SAP acquires Contextor after Qualtrics

SAP has announced another acquisition! This time, it’s acquiring Contextor, the European pioneer of robotic process automation (RPA). Contextor was founded in 2000 and is based in the territory of Paris Sud Orsay and is especially known for its breakthrough work in the design and integration of RPA and will help SAP expand its SAP Leonardo Machine Learning portfolio.

Contextor’s technology is designed to help business software users perform the daily redundant tasks through RPA across enterprise applications. Till now, the company has reportedly used more than 100,000 bots to automate many business processes. Integrating Contextor’s RPA to SAP Cloud, conversational AI technology and document processing capabilities will augment SAP’s efforts with its Leonardo Machine Learning.

SAP eventually plans to include intelligent RPA in its SAP solution offerings. Also, SAP plans to integrate intelligent RPA to its SAP S/4HANA early in 2019. Markus Noga, Head of Machine Learning at SAP said: “The acquisition is a big step towards orchestrating process automation and will help SAP inject RPA capabilities into our applications, first and foremost into SAP S/4HANA.

After the integration into the SAP S/4HANA, other applications will be integrated with the technology soon after. SAP intends to automate half of all the business processes which are supported by its SAP ERP software, over the next three years.
