Nvidia Backs Weed-Killing Robots

Revolutionizing Agriculture, Nvidia’s Cutting-Edge Solutions to Environmental Challenges and safety.

In a bid to revolutionize agriculture, Nvidia, the gaming and computer graphics giant, has invested in Seattle-based Carbon Robotics, propelling the development of advanced weed-killing robots. Carbon Robotics' LaserWeeder robot, powered by artificial intelligence (AI), has garnered significant attention for its ability to target and eliminate weeds using laser technology. With Nvidia's backing, the startup aims to scale production of this innovative device, offering farmers a transformative tool to enhance productivity and efficiency while reducing reliance on herbicides.

Meanwhile, agtech startup ArkeaBio has secured $26.5 million in funding to advance its groundbreaking "methane vaccine" technology. The vaccine, designed to mitigate enteric methane emissions from livestock, addresses a critical environmental challenge associated with cow burps. By stimulating a cow's immune response to neutralize methane-producing bacteria, ArkeaBio's vaccine offers a cost-effective and scalable solution to reduce methane emissions in the agricultural sector.

Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Rabo Ventures, and the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment are among the investors supporting ArkeaBio's mission to combat climate change through innovative vaccine technologies. This significant funding injection will enable ArkeaBio to expand its research and development efforts, including large-scale field trials, with the ultimate goal of implementing effective and sustainable solutions to reduce methane emissions from livestock worldwide.

Chris Rivest, chairman of the board at ArkeaBio and partner at Breakthrough Energy Ventures, emphasized the urgency of addressing methane emissions from agriculture, highlighting the transformative potential of ArkeaBio's innovative approach. With these advancements in agtech, the agricultural industry is poised to tackle environmental challenges head-on, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future.
