The state of Tripura improves agricultural technology through Apical Rooted Cutting (ARC) technology which enhances both potato crop output and seed production systems for farmers.
Through its use of Apical Rooted Cutting (ARC) technology Tripura has successfully advanced its agro tech sector within potato farming. The agricultural innovation achieved record-breaking success in enhancing farmer production according to Tripura's Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath.
Nath showed Manik Saha Chief Minister a portfolio of Tripura's local produce including potatoes during the state assembly session to showcase the state's progress in agricultural technology. ARC technology integration leads to higher potato production while it decreases seed dependencies on outside sources and establishes local self-reliance.
Potato farming in Tripura began in the 17th century until the mid-20th century when the expansion took place. True Potato Seed (TPS) technology became operational under the state's initiative in 1988-89 after increasing agricultural output rates successfully. RKVY serves as the framework under which Tripura implements ARC technology together with CIP in Peru so the state can strengthen its agro tech developments.
The distributions of ARC-based farming system expanded to every district of the state where 104 farmers participated in 2023-24. The new technology demonstrates positive outcomes through its increased productivity which exceeds 6,000 kg per kani and is anticipated to produce 10,000 kg by future years. In 2024-25 the state plans to provide ARC farming to 402 more farmers while demonstrating a strong dedication to sustainable and advanced agro tech solutions.
