Famed for his trailblazing work to jazz, pop and film, music producer and composer Quincy Jones has died aged 91.
Quincy Jones, famous musician and producer who approached his 92nd year, died Saturday night at his home in Bel Air. A known name for his multi-faceted approach to music, he had worked with greats such as Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and many others to earn his name in the entertainment industry.
They issued a statement saying they're sorry the family is sorry for Jones' death, grateful for his remarkable career. Jones has over 75 years in the industry and, in the process; he blazed the trail to produce Michael Jackson’s Thriller, the best-selling album of all time. He touched on jazz, pop, scores for films — earning 28 Grammy awards, Emmys, Tonys and Oscars.
Quincy was also among those who produced the global hit and all-star charity song We Are the World prominent in many continents in 1985 and raised millions for the Ethiopian famine relief efforts. He also co-wrote the music of the movie Italian Job and produced The Color Purple, a film that gave acting breaks to Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg.
Not only his music, but Jones’ force was also in the help of forming a social environment thanks to his work in TV programs like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Sir Elton John, in a tribute, said: 'Nobody had a career as incredible as his.' Other artists like LL Cool J and Nile Rodgers also paid tribute to Jones for his mentorship and lasting legacy and his inspiration for their careers: Fellow musician Dr. Dre called Jones the latter.
Quincy Jones’s music will endure timelessly; it will remain in the minds of the audience and creators as well.
