CES 2019 is almost here – and we already know a bit of what LG, Samsung, and others are planning to showcase at this mega event in Las Vegas. Tech innovators from around the globe gather to announce the latest and greatest in consumer electronics like smartphones, wearables, audio tech, TV, etc.
We have seen CES cover a lot of bases including AR and VR, voice control, connected cars, robotics, smart home, sports, accessories companies, and everything in between. However, there are some trends that are likely to dominate in this year’s mega show. The most obvious would be to see AI and machine learning integrated into more services, cloud-connected devices, “smart” gadgets, and robots.
While chipmakers like Qualcomm, Nvidia and Intel may tout their 5G bona fides, it is expected that carriers like Verizon and AT&T will demonstrate how the faster technology will keep us largely connected than ever. However, it is likely that most companies would hold back their phone announcements until late February, for the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona.
Over the past several years at CES, automotive/transportation has become an interestingly important presence. In this category, as in past years, one can expect to see a focus on EVs and self-driving technologies. Also, a big part of the showcase will be smaller transport products, like delivery robots.
Connected home products too would want to steal the show this year. It is one category that every company, irrespective of the size, will have a hand in. Expect Alexa and Google’s Assistant to be everywhere and on everything at CES.
