Following Mira Murati's departure as CTO for personal reasons, chief research officer Bob McGrew and research leader Barret Zoph are also leaving.
Mira Murati, OpenAI's chief technology officer, made an announcement regarding her leave from the firm on X platform where she mentioned her wish to ‘create some time and space’ for herself. Her decision comes alongside the exits of chief research officer Bob McGrew and research leader Barret Zoph.
In her statement, Murati looked back at her six and a half period as OpenAI’s employee which she admitted was an “extraordinary privilege” thanking CEO Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman for their assistance. She vowed to the former leadership of the company to do her best in ensuring that the transition will be smooth and steady on the progress of the said company.
Mr. Altman thanked Murati ever so warmly stating that changes in leadership of such companies is quite a normal occurrence, especially in a fast-growing company like OpenAI. He thanked her especially for help in difficult times and shared his good wishes for her in everything new to come. The Altman promised that they would communicate the outline of the transition plans in the “not far future”.
Murati’s departure would create a huge vacuum in OpenAI which in recent years has become a powerhouse of development and advancement of artificial intelligence technologies.
