Tencent Holding emerges as the first Chinese firm to debut a large language Artificial Intelligence (AI) model called “Hunyuan” that communicates in both Chinese and English.

Tencent Holdings announced on Thursday that businesses may now utilize its broad language AI model "Hunyuan" as it showcased the eagerly anticipated product amid a push by tech firms to establish itself as China's AI champion.

During a demonstration in front of a live audience at a conference in Shenzhen, the Chinese internet powerhouse and owner of the WeChat social networking platform claimed that Hunyuan has become the basis for more than 50 of its products and services.

After a number of Chinese IT companies, including Baidu Inc. and SenseTime Group, recently introduced their own AI models, Hunyuan made its debut.

Hunyuan was trained with more than 2 trillion tokens and had more than 100 billion parameters, according to Tencent, the most valuable internet business in China. These two criteria are frequently used to gauge the strength of AI models.

In 2020, the GPT-3 AI model from OpenAI had 175 billion parameters, and in 2023, the Llama 2 model from Meta Platform Inc. had 70 billion parameters.

Tencent claimed that its model, which can communicate in both Chinese and English, was "better" than OpenAI's ChatGPT in tasks including producing lengthy texts with a lot of words and resolving specific mathematical problems.

Tencent also noted that the model has 30% fewer hallucinations than Llama 2. Artificial intelligence (AI) experts frequently refer to situations when AI models produce false information but portray it as fact as "hallucination".

Tencent's assertions were not independently verified. Both ChatGPT and Meta were unable for comment right away.
