Several thousands of Hyundai motor cars were recalled within the United States due to a fire risk warning.
Hyundai and Kia cars reportedly had several car models recalled due to an issue with the transmission oil pump's electrical component, which could cause it to overheat. Until they are inspected, the companies advised vehicle owners to park outside and away from buildings. This recall is the most recent in a string of recalls for fires involving Hyundai and Kia cars in recent years.
Regarding the most recent recall, Kia stated that while there had been no accidents or injuries, there had been six reports of "thermal incidents." Hyundai reported four similar reports and added that no accidents, injuries, or fatalities were reported as a result of the problem.
Heat damage could result in a short circuit that could affect other vehicle controllers in addition to the fire risk, according to Hyundai. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the electric oil pump controller after contacting vehicle owners in late September.
The NHTSA was informed by the automakers that the suspect component had been discontinued in March.
Hyundai recalled more than 13,500 vehicles in Australia in July due to a potential engine issue that could start fires. Although they are separate companies, Hyundai and Kia are both part of the Hyundai Motor Group and have many of the same parts.
