US has to produce more EV minerals: Jeniffer Granholm, Energy Secretary

Jeniffer Granholm, US Secretary of Energy said that the United States need to elevate minerals production that is used to make electric vehicles. The US is planning to eliminate China and other countries for years.

Joe Biden, President, signed an agreement the previous month which stated that there should be strong coordination between federal agencies on supply chain issues, but there are oppositions from environmentalists on the new US mines. "Many parts of the country are sitting on top of the materials that we need to produce battery technologies," Granholm said at a webinar hosted by Securing America's Future Energy, a nonpartisan advocacy group for renewable energies.

Granholm also said that there are possibilities of high demand for sustainable mining process that draw and refine minerals in the US, there was no clarity on what she meant by it.

"Having (coal workers) mine for critical materials is a natural shift for them," said Granholm. The Energy Department said that they are making all possible efforts to begin the clean energy loan program again with over $40 billion.

The department’s scientists are working hard on bringing down EV charging time to maximum 15 minutes for a car to travel up to 300 miles and also minimize the cost of battery packs, which can make EVs inexpensive.
