Maserati has unveiled a new drop-top spyder derivative of its MC20 mid-engine supercar named the MC20 Cielo.
The second iteration of the Italian luxury carmaker’s new flagship supercar, the MC20 Cielo, uses the same Nettuno V6 as the coupe version. A folding roof adds another 65 kg to the vehicle’s overall weight.
The Cielo’s highlight is its roof—other than folding down also features an electrochromic glass panel enabling drivers to revel in pseudo-open-top motoring even with the top up.
The MC20 Cielo is the second of three variants the firm has planned for the MC20, with an all-electric Folgore too in the cards in the coming years.
The Maserati MC20 Cielo retains the coupe’s low and flowing proportions, with the most notable distinction being the roof and rear deck. The air vents above the MC20 Cielo’s rear wheel arches have been redesigned. However, the cabin carries forward unchanged from the coupe version.
Maserati says its roof on the MC20 Cielo can be folded and deployed in 12 seconds.
The car features the same Nettuno V6 as the coupe version. The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged motor churns out 621 bhp and 720 Nm, with Maserati claiming the MC20 Cielo reaches 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds.
The MC20 Cielo will go on sale in international markets in the coming months, beginning with a limited-run PrimaSerie Launch Edition.
