After the COVID-19 crisis, IATA urges Thailand to boost its aviation industry by focusing on infrastructure, digitalization, sustainability and effectiveness for service tourism.
The IATA is the most famous professional association for the airline industry with the tourism industry gradually getting out of the Covid-19 pandemic, the IATA has invited Thailand to enhance its air transport system. For the period between the years 2024 to 2043, Total Passenger air transportation is forecasted to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.88% CAGR.
According to IATA’s Regional Vice President North Asia and Asia Pacific, Dr Xie Xingquan, “There is a bright future in the aviation industry in Thailand.” He stated that even the demand as of now is already at 88% of the 2019 figures and there are projections of further growth beginning 2025. With the country’s assets in tourism rated among the best globally, he says Thailand will rank among the world’s 15 largest aviation markets in about twenty years.
Dr. Xie acknowledged the importance of improving aviation to boost its economic contribution. He highlighted the significant impact of aviation on tourism and GDP, urging authorities to keep taxes reasonable and avoid implementing tourism taxes that could deter public travel demand.
Investments in technology and infrastructure are crucial for aviation development. Suvarnabhumi Airport expansion is necessary for growing air traffic. Technological changes in the provision of travel services will increase the value that is derived by travelers. The creation of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) plant can drive Thailand to be at the forefront of aviation industry decarbonization.
In focusing on these, Thailand can ensure that its aviation industry reaps the fullest economic advantages and encourage a more substantial recovery and growth thereafter.
