India and 116 other countries sign on to enhance international flight options.
India has taken a significant leap in strengthening its global air connectivity by signing Bilateral Air Services Agreements (ASAs) with 116 countries. These agreements are designed to enhance international flight operations between India and the participating nations, aiming to foster economic growth and boost tourism.
During a recent Rajya Sabha session, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Joshi provided details on these agreements in response to a query from Dr. John Brittas. He clarified that the ASAs focus on cities rather than specific airports or states.
The agreements specify major Indian cities as points of call for international flights. These cities include Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and many others, ensuring broad and flexible air service coverage.
Minister Joshi emphasized that the agreements do not designate entire states as points of call. Instead, they target specific cities to streamline operations and improve efficiency. This city-based approach allows airlines to manage routes better and accommodate multiple airports within the designated cities.
In response to requests for documentation on states being designated as points of call, the Minister confirmed that no such designations exist. This approach underscores India’s commitment to a structured and efficient model for international air travel.
By focusing on cities, India aims to enhance its connectivity and support a more organized and effective global air network, making international travel more accessible and efficient for both passengers and airlines.
