HPE out with a ‘more secure' Gen 10 ProLiant Servers with Silicon Root of Trust

Firmware attacks have been a major spot of bother for Enterprises and HPE looks to solve that with the release of its new Gen 10 ProLiant Servers. AT the HPE Discover conference in Las Vegas, it announced the launch of its latest Gen 10 ProLiant servers with added silicon level security.

HPE focused more on the security features and manageability rather than talking about the new Skylake server chips from Intel, a similar route that was taken by Dell. Specifically, HPE spoke about its security feature that is at a firmware level. Called the Silicon Root of Trust, it is a link between custom HPE silicon and its own Integrated Lights out firmware. The link is designed to prevent execution of compromised code and retain the proper code automatically.

HPE says that each of the industry standard ProLiant servers is connected to the ILO which has a unique fingerprint in the silicon of its own. This will prevent the server from booting up unless the finger print matches the firmware.

The feature also includes encryption and breach detection technology which is tightly integrated by HPE supply chain security and HPE Pointnext security assessment and protection services. HPE claims no other server supplier offers this level of security.

The company also added that the Gen 10 ProLiants is supported by OneView 3.1, HPE’s very own server management software product. This will, according to HPE, “transform compute, storage and network into software-defined infrastructure.” It also features Intelligent System Tuning benefits which is a result of its partnership with Intel for Xeon Scalable Processors.

Gen 10 ProLiants will have Scalable Persistent Memory which is an update to its existing Persistent Memory. IT will have terabyte scale capacity running at memory speeds which HPE claims will be the fastest persistent memory at scale available in the market.

The 10^th generation ProLiant server will be available this summer along with the release of its Synergy systems, called the Synergy Compute Modules, and HPE Converged Systems.
