Under GEA-4 the Department of Energy of the Philippines seeks to establish 9,378 MW of eco-friendly power generation facilities to advance the nation's renewable energy movement.
The Department of Energy (DOE) published the fourth version of Green Energy Auction (GEA-4) Terms of Reference (TOR) to develop 9,378 megawatts (MW) of new clean energy capacity by utilizing solar and wind power. The Philippines has established the auction procedure as its vital tool to achieve a 35% renewable energy share by 2030.
The key innovation of GEA-4 involves uniting Renewable Energy and Energy Storage Systems (IRESS) since this mark the first time such pairing occurs during an auction between solar power plants and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The 1,100 MW solar projects with storage components will strengthen grid stability as the electricity demand continues to rise.
The auction will proceed through different stages over three years starting in 2026 until 2029 for project implementation. The auction covers different renewable energy technology installations while setting parameter targets for solar generation and wind power and energy storage equipment units.
The revised Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP) guidelines from DOE establish new registration rules and payment methods to attract qualified suppliers in the market. The selected winners under this program will obtain 20-year contractual arrangements for participating in clean energy projects.
GEA-4 enhances investor trust in clean power solutions while supporting the Philippines’ renewable energy objectives and advancing sustainability across the nation.
