AWS has announced the immediate availability of a new region in AWS Asia Pacific (Hong Kong). With this launch, AWS now offers 64 availability zones all over the world and serves customers in over 190 countries.
Hong Kong joins the likes of Singapore, Tokyo, Beijing, Sydney, Ningxia, Seoul, and Mumbai as a new region in AWS Asia Pacific. Hong Kong already hosts AWS SAR which includes three Edge Network Locations. The new region will offer multiple AWS services including “Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS)” among others.
Justifying the establishment of the new region Peter DeSantis, Vice President of Global Infrastructure and Customer Support said: “Hong Kong is globally recognized as a leading financial tech hub and one of the top places where startups build their businesses, so we’ve had many customers asking us for an AWS Region in Hong Kong so they can build their businesses on the world’s leading cloud with the broadest and deepest feature set.”
The cloud arm of Amazon plans to open 12 more availability zones and AWS regions in Bahrain, Cape Town, Jakarta, and Milan soon.
