Google has announced that it is going to invest $1.1 billion more in the Netherlands to bring up more data centers. It is believed that a new facility will be coming to Agriport and an existing site will be expanded under this new investment.
The vice president of Google’s Global Data Centers, Joe Kava, said in a statement that the Netherlands was especially attractive for these projects because of the availability of ample renewable energy. She further said that the two sites will employ around 500 people.
The trend of tech companies deciding to go to countries with prodigious renewable energy scenarios all around the world has been on the rise lately. The Nordic region and Netherlands have been the most preferred destinations for these companies. A lot of these companies also believe that cold climatic conditions can help them save on air conditioning.
Google has already invested 1.5 billion euros in the country for data center operations previously. The newest investment will bring the total tally of investment up to 2.5 billion euros. The investment in the Netherlands will give a great boost to the local cloud services market which continues to grow in the region.
