Microsoft and Sony have been longstanding rivals when it comes to gaming. But the two companies have now announced that they will be collaborating to bring forth new cloud-based solutions for gaming experiences and AI solutions.
The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding which will see them develop future cloud solutions in Microsoft Azure to support game and content streaming services. The companies will also try to find new ways to use Microsoft Azure datacenter-based solutions for Sony’s game and content streaming services. The collaboration is bound to deliver more enhanced entertainment for their customers all over the world.
The memorandum also dictates the collaboration between the two companies in the fields of semiconductor and AI. The companies will be developing new intelligent image sensor solutions. They intend to do this by integrating Sony’s image sensors with Microsoft’s Azure AI technology across cloud and edge. The companies will also work on providing a more intuitive and user-friendly AI experience through some tools in Sony’s consumer products and Microsoft’s advanced AI platform.
Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella said: “Sony has always been a leader in both entertainment and technology, and the collaboration we announced today builds on this history of innovation.” He further said that the partnership will bring more “power of Azure and Azure AI” to Sony which enables Sony to deliver new gaming and entertainment experiences for customers.
