UCSF will commemorate National Cyber Security Awareness Month by holding events

We spend our day with technology and it is part of our life now. As the usage increases, cybersecurity has become a necessity. It is important to protect cyber attacks like malware, phishing, and social media threats.

In order to help UC San Francisco faculty, staff, students and trainees protect their digital information, as well as UCSF’s, the University is celebrating National Cyber Security Awareness Month with a series of outreach and educational events that run through this month.

Every October is observed National Cyber Security Awareness Month ( NCSAM). This celebration was started in 2004 to ensure that all Americans have access to more safe online.

The events kick off Oct. 12 at the UCSF Sharecase Event with a discussion about the current state of advanced persistent threats led by Special Agent Elvis Chan from the FBI San Francisco’s Cyber Squad. That same day, David Klonoff, MD, a UCSF endocrinologist and diabetes technology specialist, will lead a discussion on the importance of cyber security for connected medical devices. Sharecase is a free, peer-to-peer, full day conference and educational expo at the Mission Bay Conference Center.  

 In addition to this, UCSF Information Technology (IT) department will set up tables in campuses of UCSF and medical center locations to help community to stay safe from cyber attacks by providing resources.
