Cybersecurity Breach Prompts CVS to Strengthen IT Defenses, Impacts Business Operations.
Veterinary group CVS has reported being targeted by a cyberattack, resulting in significant disruption, particularly within its UK operations. The company, which oversees approximately 500 veterinary practices worldwide and employs over 9,000 individuals, took immediate action upon detecting the attack, successfully restoring its IT services across most of its operations.
Despite this progress, CVS remains cautious as some systems are not yet fully operational. While the specific data accessed during the breach was not disclosed, CVS has notified relevant authorities due to concerns over potential unauthorized access to personal information.
Upon discovering the cyberattack, CVS promptly took its IT systems offline, effectively preventing further unauthorized access. However, this action led to substantial operational disruptions over the past week, particularly in the UK, while operations outside the UK remained relatively unaffected.
In response to the incident, CVS has expedited plans to transition its practice management system and associated IT infrastructure to cloud-based platforms, accompanied by enhanced security measures. This strategic move is expected to impact operations for several weeks as the company works to fortify its defenses against future cyber threats.
