Dbt Labs unveiled dbt Copilot, an AI-powered feature launched as part of dbt Labs Coalesce 2024 updates, alongside improvements to dbt Cloud to further enhance enterprise analytics accessibility and quality.
Dbt Labs Inc. began its annual conference for users-Coalesce 2024-in Las Vegas and also shared some important news regarding the updates of its main product – the Dbt Cloud. The enhancements are meant to position the dbt Cloud as a full-fledged “data control plane” for enterprise analytics systems allowing users to operate at any stage of the analytics development lifecycle.
At the Forefront of that strategy is the Dbt Copilot-a new contextualized AI assistant that integrated in the platform helps to perform tasks. The tool addresses data prep workload thereby increasing user involvement in analytics process by reducing activities such as writing tests, documentation and semantic models.
Dbt Cloud is structured to function alongside data warehouse services like Snowflake, Databricks and Google BigQuery among others. The new updates address data quality issues, data ownership issues as well as data literacy issues to enable use of the platform by users with low technical ability.
Another core feature introduced is a chat interface which enables users asks questions related to data simply through natural language. Users can now also add their own OpenAI API keys for more capabilities. The Dbt Mesh tool will also be able to use the Apache Iceberg table format for cross-platform reference, thereby ensuring strict data governance in disparate big data systems.
Dbt Labs founder and CEO Tristan Handy asserted that a consistent data experience is critical. “Our announcements this week go a long way toward fixing these gaps with a ‘One Dbt experience’ that is cross platform, multi persona, trusted and AI infused.” These modifications are expected to change the way companies process and visualize information in a more connective and effective manner.
