India Establishes Strategic Defense Position at BRICS Summit

BRICS Summit shows India as a key player in global geopolitics, focusing on defense, diplomacy, peace, and free trade amid instability.

The latest BRICS Summit held in Kazan, Russia noted the exceptional geopolitical position of India; political risk analyst Ian Bremmer commended this element within its foreign policy for balance. He pointed out the country’s position as a leader of the South, conciliating to Sinosphere relations arguing, “No other significant market compromises in wars with odds of poorly treated pensions or discontent women – and is friends with almost everybody.”

At the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for resolution of impasses without delay and condemned those who support terrorism. Defense discussions with President Xi Jinping lasted five hours because of his meetings with him.

During recent consultations that helped reduce tensions on the Line of Actual Control with China, India's National Security Adviser Ajit Doval also participated. This aspect of the diverse engagements speaks to the capacity of India to articulate and pursue its own interests under its own terms amidst complex relationships.

Modi’s views presented at the summit which addressed among other issues the fight against terrorism further proved India’s dedication to the pursuit of peace and security. He condemned countries that hold double standards towards terrorism and especially those who protect terrorist state of Pakistan when it comes to NGOs aiming at anti-Indian terrorism.

India's aspiration to act as a mediator in the existing conflicts is also a goal with a wider scope that relates to the preservation of peace in an ever more multipolar world. The BRICS Summit also provided an opportunity for India to display its defense posture and its other aspirations, thus reinforcing its image as an important global power.
