Elon Musk, a transplant from Texas, intends to open a new university in Austin, according to tax records.
According to the documents, which were originally published by Bloomberg, the school — which has not yet been given a name — would open as a primary and secondary school with a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) concentration. It will be financed by a $100 million grant from Musk's charity, The Foundation, as well as student tuition.
In addition to providing remote learning opportunities via "distance education technologies," the school will serve pupils in the neighborhood, according to the filing. The program's initial enrollment goal is 50 students, and admission requirements include intellectual curiosity and discipline, independence, and inventiveness.
According to the report, the institution will become a university after it is "successfully operating" and will apply for accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Although the document doesn't say how much tuition should cost, it does say that admitted students would have access to financial aid. The school is actively hiring experienced administrators, teachers, and an executive director.
Musk is venturing into education for the second time. Additionally, he established the Astra Nova School, an online-only institution serving students in grades 10 through 14.
