Two LE 1.05 billion solar energy projects in Egypt will be funded by an EU grant, with the first project involving the Assiut Oil Refining Company building a 10-megawatt solar power station.
Two solar energy projects totaling LE 1.05 billion will be implemented in Egypt. A grant from the “Support for Energy Policy Reform” program of the European Union will finance both initiatives. In the first project, the Assiut Oil Refining Company will build a 10-megawatt solar power generating station. This project will be carried out by Enppi and Petrojet, two petroleum industry subsidiaries that are experts in engineering designs, general contracting, and construction. The project will cost LE 550 million to construct, and it should be finished in 11 months.
The General Petroleum Company is home to the second solar energy plant. The project, costing LE 500 million, is expected to generate 6.5 megawatts of electricity and contribute to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ energy transformation and emissions reduction agenda, enhancing the availability of sustainable and alternative energy sources.
Egypt intends to direct the generated power to meet a portion of the rising home and industrial electricity needs by lessening the strain on the national electrical grid and addressing its increasing demands. Egypt is implementing solar power projects to reduce petroleum fuel usage in electricity generation. These initiatives aim to diversify Egypt’s energy mix, reduce carbon emissions, and transition to a cleaner, more ecologically friendly future by utilizing its vast solar resources, thereby promoting a more sustainable energy sector.
