The executive hiring spree continues at Coinbase. And the latest addition is Emilie Choi who is joining as Vice President of Corporate and Business Development at Coinbase. Choi was picked up from LinkedIn where she held the position of Vice President of Corporate Development and oversaw a total of 40 mergers and acquisitions related transactions. Prior to LinkedIn, Choi worked business development roles at both Warner Brothers and Yahoo.
Coinbase said that Choi “will be focused on scaling Coinbase globally, seeking out world-class acquisition and partnership opportunities, and managing our strategic projects.” Hiring her is a good move for the fast-growing startup as it has trouble keeping up with user growth and activity, from both customer service and technical perspectives.
This is why Coinbase could use someone who can spearhead acquisitions could help on this front. While there’s limited engineering talent in the crypto space, it makes sense to either acquire or acqui-hire a startup. Be it taking onboard a group of engineers or simply using a piece of technology, this could lead the way to the future for Coinbase.
Till now, Coinbase hasn’t had any big acquisitions. But with Choi on board, things may start changing. Also to consider is the finance of the company. The startup is now well capitalized from both significant venture funding as well as from running a super profitable trading business.
