Dairy Queen is expanding its burger offerings as the American fast-food chain looks beyond its current offerings of Blizzards and other desserts.
The new Stackburger line is Dairy Queen’s most significant menu expansion in nearly two decades. It has five lip-smacking burger flavors for its U. S. customers—Bacon Two Cheese deluxe, Flamethrower, Loaded A1, Two Cheese Deluxe, and the Original Cheeseburger. The new burger variants are available as one-half pound triple burgers or one-third pound double burgers—hence the Stackburger moniker.
The new burger flavors will be a permanent addition to menus at the company’s DQ Grill & Chill locations, which make up 72% of Dairy Queen’s over 3,300 U.S. outlets. The fast-food company announced that the Stackburger line is also launching in Canada.
Tuesday’s official launch is a long time coming. In an interview, Troy Bader, CEO of International Dairy Queen, said that the chain started looking at its menu critically around five years ago, since when he was appointed as the CEO of the chain. According to Bader, the fast-food firm realized it couldn’t “be everything to everyone,” hence it has tried to meet its customer base’s needs.
Investing mogul and billionaire Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway has owned Dairy Queen for 25 years. According to the brand’s franchise disclosure documents last year, the fast-food firm’s annual revenue increased 18% to $224.7 million.
