World-renowned actor Leonardo DiCaprio has acquired an equity stake in French champagne house Telmont, its majority stake owner Remy Cointreau announced on Wednesday, as luxury brands strike partnership deals with celebrities to widen their appeal.
DiCaprio said in a statement that from safeguarding biodiversity on its land to using 100% renewable electricity, Champagne Telmont was determined to drastically lower its environmental footprint and made him proud to join the brand as an investor.
In February 2021, Moet Hennessey of Bernard Arnault’s LVMH acquired a 50% stake in rapper Jay-Z’s Armand de Brignac champagne brand.
Founded in 1912, the Telmont champagne house came under the ownership of French drinks company Remy Cointreau, who purchased a majority stake in the champagne house in October 2020. PernodRicard and Diageo are the primary rivals of Remy Cointreau.
Historic luxury brands worldwide have struck partnership agreements with celebrities in their bid to appeal to younger customers, with rap star Jay-Z’s pop icon and music legend wife Beyonce already associated with the Ivy Park sportswear brand.
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of Hollywood’s most illustrious actors, winning the Academy Award in 2016 for his role in the movie “The Revenant,” while his other films include “The Wolf of the Wall Street” and “Titanic.”
