Food testing labs are urged to prevent errors in test reports to streamline the clearance of imported consignments.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has sent out an important advise to laboratories handling imported food samples in an effort to improve the effectiveness of food import procedures. It is noted in the advice that laboratories associated with the Food Import Clearance System (FICS) site have been posting test findings incorrectly, which has caused delays in import consignment clearing.
The FSSAI's advisory stresses the importance of diligence in preparing and verifying test reports. Laboratories are instructed to submit test results within five days and ensure that all entries, including test parameters, food product categories, FSSR regulations, and result strings, are accurately reflected before final submission. The final report must be carefully reviewed for Pass/Fail results, correct sample identification, Form-2 compliance, NABL accreditation scope, and validated methods.
Ashwin Bhadri, CEO of Equinox Labs, emphasized that adherence to these guidelines will improve the accuracy and reliability of test reports, facilitating smoother import operations and bolstering laboratory reputations. He acknowledged that while the advisory adds extra procedural steps, these are essential for preventing errors that could cause significant delays.
Furthermore, the advisory advises laboratories to notify the Authorized Officer in case of any delays in testing import samples, ensuring transparency and timely communication throughout the process.
