Google introduces Gemini Live, offering natural, two-way voice conversations for Gemini Advanced subscribers, challenging ChatGPT’s latest voice capabilities.
In an effort equal to ChatGPT's advanced audio Mode, Google has announced the launch of Gemini Live, a new two-way audio function for its Gemini chatbot. At the Made by Google event, this upgrade was revealed with new Pixel smartphones. It is presently accessible to Gemini Advanced subscribers on Android devices, and in the upcoming weeks, it will be made available on iOS and in more languages.
Gemini Live provides ten alternative speech options, each with unique intensity levels, pitches, and tonalities, to give consumers a more engaging and human-like experience. In addition to supporting smooth, lifelike dialogue, this functionality works in the background or when the phone is locked, giving users a hands-free experience that is comparable to making a standard phone call.
In this mode, users can simply provide context or ask follow-up questions during dynamic, back-and-forth discussions. Additionally, it allows for pauses and interruptions, which improves the AI's ability to have flexible conversations.
Although OpenAI's ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode and Google's Gemini Live offer fewer voice options and a smaller context window, both technologies are designed to improve user interaction with AI. Gemini Live is only available in English at this time, but future upgrades will support other languages and be compatible with iOS devices.
