FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is off to a blistering start as the game has already sold 12 million copies globally since its February 25 release date.
Bandai Namco and FromSoftware shared the news in a press release, stating that Elden Ring has sold over 1 million copies in the Japanese market alone and over 12 million copies globally as of March 14, 2022. These sales figures were derived from distribution figures of package versions and sales figures of the downloadable versions.
In the press release, FromSoftware’s President and CEO/Director Hidetaka Miyazaki said that it was astonishing to see just how many people had been playing the game and wanted to extend heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team.
Also, in the press release, Bandai Namco’s President and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa added that he wanted to use the opportunity to thank all the fans who had brought ‘Elden Ring’ into their gaming lives. He said that he was incredibly proud to bring such a fantastic and wonderful game to life with FromSoftware, under Director Miyazaki’s guidance and with author George R. R. Martin of the Game of Thrones fame.
Since its launch on February 25, the open-world action role-playing game (RPG) has been smashing and setting records. Its physical sales in the UK made it the third biggest retail game launch of 2022 and the biggest new gaming IP in Europe since 2016’s The Division. Famitsu and the NPD Group have reported it to have summited the sales charts for February in Japan and the United States.
