God of War on PCs is off to a solid start and has passed Horizon Zero Dawn to become Sony’s biggest PC game launch with an all-time peak of 73,529 players so far.
The statistics were revealed by SteamDB, a site that tracks the online game marketplace Steam’s data. It revealed God of War reached that number on January 15—a day after the previous PlayStation exclusive was launched on PC.
It is also not bad for a game that’s nearing its fourth anniversary. The game is also sitting at an impressive 97% overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam. A vast number of the reviews are praising the excellent job Santa Monica Studio and Jetpack Interactive have done on the port.
Before God of War’s PC launch, Horizon Zero Dawn had the highest all-time peak for a Sony first-time game at nearly 56,500 players. The zombie survival game Days Gone, Sony’s second first-party release on PC, maxed out at almost 27,400 players.
Sony’s focus on launching some of its biggest exclusives on PC appears to be working wonders. God of War director Cody Barlog said that a few of PlayStation’s own studios were crucial in convincing Sony it was an excellent idea to make the launches happen.
