Square Enix announces Kingdom Hearts 4 at the game’s 20th-anniversary event

Video game studio Square Enix has announced that Kingdom Hearts 4 is under development, the next entry in the long-running critically acclaimed Disney role-playing game series.

Square Enix announced the upcoming installment of the video game during an event in Japan to celebrate the franchise’s 20^th anniversary. The new mobile game Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was also announced alongside Kingdom Hearts 4 at the 20^th-anniversary event.

While no release date/window or platforms for Kingdom Hearts 4 was revealed, you do get a glimpse of the protagonist, Sora, in the new world of Quadratum, a quick look at the potential gameplay, and a tease of Disney characters Donald Duck and Goofy at the ending of the trailer.

The footage shown in the trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 showed an art style reminiscent of the previous games. However, the new game had a much more realistic look. The game developers, Square Enix, also confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 4 is in “early development,” so the wait might be a long one until its release.

The game trailer revealed that the fourth entry of the series is the “Lost Master arc.” Kingdom Hearts 3 was released in 2019 to much critical acclaim and success and is the immediate predecessor to the new game.
