Video game studio Square Enix has announced that Kingdom Hearts 4 is under development, the next entry in the long-running critically acclaimed Disney role-playing game series.
Square Enix announced the upcoming installment of the video game during an event in Japan to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary. The new mobile game Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was also announced alongside Kingdom Hearts 4 at the 20th-anniversary event.
While no release date/window or platforms for Kingdom Hearts 4 was revealed, you do get a glimpse of the protagonist, Sora, in the new world of Quadratum, a quick look at the potential gameplay, and a tease of Disney characters Donald Duck and Goofy at the ending of the trailer.
The footage shown in the trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 showed an art style reminiscent of the previous games. However, the new game had a much more realistic look. The game developers, Square Enix, also confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 4 is in “early development,” so the wait might be a long one until its release.
The game trailer revealed that the fourth entry of the series is the “Lost Master arc.” Kingdom Hearts 3 was released in 2019 to much critical acclaim and success and is the immediate predecessor to the new game.
