Sony is developing a high-end PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, expected to launch later this year. Media outlets have confirmed that leaked specs about the PS5 Pro are accurate.
Under the code name Trinity, Sony is developing a new “high-end version” of the PS5, which is anticipated to launch as the PS5 Pro later this year. Information regarding how both new and old PS5 games can be “enhanced” to take advantage of the PS5 Pro technology has also been received by media outlets, who verified earlier this week that leaked specs about the PS5 Pro were accurate. In order to improve the performance of older games on the PS5 Pro, Sony is also developing an ultra-boost mode.
According to media sources with knowledge of Sony’s intentions, the company is requesting that game developers implement a new graphics mode specifically for the PS5 Pro that combines ray-tracing effects and Sony’s new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling to 4K resolution at a frame rate of 60 frames per second. Some of this Enhanced PS5 Pro game information was originally covered by Insider Gaming last month.
The PS5 Pro “Enhanced” label will still be accessible for a number of other scenarios that include 30 frames per second in games, even though Sony wants this new mode in games. For PS5 Pro games that run at a fixed resolution on the PS5, developers can choose to increase the target resolution. For games that run at a variable resolution on the PS5, they can even increase the goal maximum resolution.
