French travelers in Uttar Pradesh became trapped when Google Maps steered them into an unidentified territory which emphasizes wilderness problems with their navigation system.
Two French tourists Brian Jacques Gilbert and Sebastian Francois Gabriel ended up lost in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh after trusting a shortcut Google Maps showing to them. As they drove their bicycle from Delhi to Kathmandu in Nepal through Tanakpur they ended up in Churaili Dam territory after following an app suggestion.
Several bicycling tourists attracted local villagers' attention during late Thursday thus leading to their police station visit. The shortcut deviated the travelers from their route and directed them through an isolated territory according to Baheri Circle Officer Arun Kumar Singh.
The occurrence demonstrates the persistent problems people face with trust in navigation applications. A deadly traffic mishap occurred last November because a Google Maps fault routed drivers onto a bridge that had collapsed. Local law enforcement promotes caution and new safety security procedures because GPS app routes often misguide people.
