Amazon has announced two new centers in Italy this year. The e-commerce giant is establishing a distribution center in Novara and a sorting center in Spilamberto (MO).
The move by Amazon is set to create as many as 1,100 permanent jobs in the next three years. The company is investing over €230 million, which will add to the € 5.8 billion already invested by Amazon in Italy in the last ten years.
These centers will have structures that will have a sustainable impact. They will be powered by solar panels and high energy saving systems, which in line with the Climate Pledge. “We are proud and excited to expand our logistics network with two new centers in Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna,” said Stefano Perego, VP Amazon EU Operations.
The distribution center located in Novara is expected to create 900 jobs within three years of opening. This center will be equipped with advanced Amazon Robotics technology with particular attention to employees' health and well-being.
The Spilamberto (MO) sorting center will be the second site of this type opened by Amazon in Emilia Romagna after that of Castel San Giovanni, and the third in Italy. Vailog srl (Segro Group) is responsible for the construction of the new warehouse. This site will create 200 new permanent jobs by 2023. The sorting center employees will take care of sorting and preparing the parcels, coming from the centers of distribution, for shipment to sorting depots, before final delivery to customers.
