Maison Margiela's creative director John Galliano announces his resignation after 10 years at the helm, looking back on his success and pointing to further projects.

John Galliano, the famed fashion creator, will now leave his position as a creative director at Maison Margiela after what many dubbed as the wonderful time of ten years-the decider being an emotional Instagram post wherein Galliano stated: "Today is the day I say goodbye," and "my heart overflows with joyous gratitude."

After completing a truly extraordinary year, Artisanal 2024 that already captivated the professional audience, as well as fashion and lifestyle audience, with its dandy avant-garde and the broken marionette inspired designs, the sixty four years old fashion designer attaches himself to the brand. The pieces in this collection weren’t nearly as many as you’d expect, but custom pieces from the collection have been spotted on the 2024 Met Gala: singer Ariana Grande, rapper Bad Bunny and actress Gwendoline Christie.

Dior fired Galliano and in disgrace after the latter wound up in a highly publicized racism scandal, but he got the house back on track and into soaring territory. Under Margiela, sales rose by 24% in 2022 and an astronomical 23% in 2023. Fashion and lifestyle outlets such as Vogue were welcome to Galliano's unusual vision, which helped turn Margiela into a well-known label that melds fashion with art.

Galliano said his farewell statement thanking his 'fashion family' for supporting him during his creative journey. Galliano doesn't confirm next steps in his career but hints that they will appear 'at some point' as the 'time is right.'

His exit paves the way for a new era for both Margiela and, indeed, most of the lifestyle culture at large.
