Thom Browne, a master American fashion showman, incorporated Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" into his wintry scene at New York Fashion Week, adorned with fake snow.
Ever the master showman of American fashion, Thom Browne brought his latest creative creations to the eerie strains of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" as he wrapped up New York Fashion Week on a breezy day with his own wintry scene as he covered the floor with fake snow.
On Wednesday night, in a theater on the far west side of Manhattan, Browne did what he does best — showcasing his mastery of meticulous tailoring and spending his time telling a story, even while celebrities like Janet Jackson and Queen Latifah were seated in the front row. Carrie Coon, the actress from "The Gilded Age," narrated the soundtrack for the film. She told Poe's melancholy tale of a lover lamenting the loss of his beloved Lenore and being visited by a thick-necked, black bird that keeps saying, "Nevermore! Nevermore!"
As the current chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Browne is unmatched in the fashion industry as a storyteller. He has staged his shows in fictitious cathedrals, enchanted gardens, and even distant planets. As usual, Browne's models strolled calmly and carefully through a snow-covered wasteland with sparse trees instead of strutting a runway. They were characters in his vision.
