The government of Myanmar has been trying to increase regional travel and tourism by promoting exploration of its cultural heritage, and has introduced Visa free travel to the country.
Myanmar has eliminated visa barriers to passport holders from eight countries in its efforts to boost its inter regional accessibility and also to grow its travel and tourism sector. Thus, future visitors can fully enjoy the country’s culture, beauty, and absorbing sites.
The policy liberalization embraces the citizens of these countries - Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Since the major goal of the country is to obtain more foreign investments through tourism, easier travel means that more people is expected to come from Southeast Asia.
The tourism industry of Myanmar is going upward. This is an increase of 78% against the number of international tourist visitors in 2021 which was 199,057. This report explains that the tourists are mostly from China following Thailand and Japan, but South Korea, although Thailand is looking farther within the region.
Other countries apart from Myanmar also implement measures aimed at increasing tourism. For instance, China has recently declared a visa-free regime for the citizens of nine countries starting on November 8. This policy aims at making travel and tourism easier by allowing tourists of all sorts, business, leisure, family reunions or transit to the country with visa not required and duration of 15 days maximum.
Asia has more countries moving in direction of going for the visa free policy and the travel and tourism sector of Asia is gaining momentum and one such country which is coming to center stage as a tourist attraction for regional and international travelers is Myanmar.
