We at CIO Bulletin had the opportunity to interview Margherita Rezzonico, the Owner of Al Molo 5, where she shed light on how Al Molo 5 offers its guests a breathtaking lake view and immerses them in a world where luxury knows no bounds, and every experience is crafted with care and sophistication.

Q. Can you share the story behind the founding of Al Molo 5? What inspired the creation of this luxurious boutique hotel on Lake Como?

The desire to provide the highest quality service stems from more than 40 years of traveling. During this time, I stayed in thousands of properties and wanted to bring together the best of all of these experiences in Al Molo 5, creating an unparalleled atmosphere that would leave guests 100% satisfied every time. No easy feat, the team was determined to strike a balance of tending to every need without being intrusive, making customer stays simple and truly hospitable, all while providing top-quality food at reasonable prices at the restaurant below.

Q. Al Molo 5 is renowned for offering a unique and romantic holiday experience. Could you elaborate on the specific features or services you offer that distinguish your hotel from other luxury accommodations on Lake Como?

Al Molo 5 is located just minutes away from Bellagio, often called “the pearl of Lake Como”, and many of the other tourist attractions the region boasts, all of which are best viewed from directly aboard a boat. For this reason, in addition to the luxury that the hotel provides, guests are invited to use one of its premier and most popular services, the boat rental scheme Boat2go. Through this, guests will have access to our Boat Tours with a captain, kayaks, SUPs, and fast motorboats, all of which do not require a boating license and provide the utmost fun and the best way to get around. We have a lakefront terrace, a solarium just on the water, a gym, a sauna, and a jacuzzi.

Q. From waking up to the sound of waves to enjoying breakfast on the balcony, Al Molo 5 emphasizes an immersive guest experience. How do you ensure that each guest’s stay is truly unforgettable?

Our goal is to have our customers arrive, park their car in our garages, and enjoy their holiday without thinking about anything else. Our staff not only welcomes customers but also accompanies them during their stay to simplify every experience, whether it is live cooking downstairs, or a boat trip with our captains, a ride on an electric bicycle, or wine tastings of Italian wines.

Q. The design of your rooms combines modern and traditional elements with warm colors. Can you elaborate on the design process and how you achieved this harmonious blend?

Furnishing and restoration have always been my passion. Vassena is an ancient fishing village, and I wanted to keep the atmosphere of the small village intact by focusing on local material components such as stones, wood, and natural textile fibers, all accompanied by original objects from the past.

Q. Your boat rental service, including Kayaks, SUPs, and the VIP Charter experience, is a standout feature. Can you tell us more about these offerings?

Lake Como can only be fully appreciated from the lake; otherwise, almost all of its beauty is lost. The most beautiful villas cannot be reached from the road. You can visit villages like Varenna and immerse yourself in its small streets, but the beauty of the colors seen from the water is unique. The need to create personalized tours was a 'must' because our goal is to provide experiences and leave lasting memories. Our tours with a captain or rental boats can be customized in every detail, including having a chef on board, tastings, anniversaries, special occasions - everything is meticulously organized.

Q. Sustainability is increasingly important in the hospitality industry. What steps has Al Molo 5 taken to promote sustainable tourism and minimize its environmental impact?

This is a very current theme, not only with respect to nature but also for logistical needs. Living in small villages with few roads and limited space, the green choice was an obligatory step. We strive to do our best in everything, avoiding waste. Every year, we undergo inspections to optimize safety and raise awareness among all staff members. Our internal organization is aimed at limiting the ecological impact.

Q. Can you share a memorable guest review or experience that highlights what Al Molo 5 is all about?

We have incredible reviews; it's impossible to mention just a few. They serve as a continuous stimulus for growth. I can only tell you that many of our customers become friends, many return, and many continuously send us greetings. We have become a romantic icon for couples of all genres.

Q. Looking ahead, what are the future plans for Al Molo 5, and are there any exciting developments or expansions on the horizon? Additionally, what role do you envision Al Molo 5 playing in the broader context of Lake Como’s tourism industry?

There are many new features; we are completing two special rooms, suites with two sides completely overlooking the water. A second restaurant will soon open on the ground floor with an Italian chef. It will not be a classic restaurant but a tasting room where you can sit in front of the chef who will explain real Italian cuisine by cooking live to provide a genuine experience.

We have no intention of distorting our small village; therefore, we will be able to offer an experience for a few, giving something totally immersive in a REAL Italian village.

Margherita Rezzonico, the Owner of Al Molo 5, was born in Como, representing the third generation of a company involved in producing nautical accessories since 1947. With a desire to host her clients in what she perceives as a magical place—Lake Como and the small community of Vassena—Margherita began investing in real estate approximately 10 years ago, gradually realizing her project. Each day, she finds herself moved by the sight of the lake, hoping that customers can perceive and experience their territory as she does.
